Overview of Learning to SCUBA Dive
It starts out with an orientation that takes about an hour. We go through signing all the medical statements liability releases, pool releases and student record. A five minute video is presented as well. We explain everything inside the instructional material and also a hand out. You are fitted for a buoyancy compensator and weight belt. In this course, you're doing a lot of work at home; you’re reading the sections, answering the knowledge review questions at the end of each section. We then we set up three sessions and each session is about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. We spend about 45 minutes in the classroom just going through the safety concepts of the sections that you read at home. We go through the knowledge review questions that you had already answered; do a 10 question quiz and then we're in the pool for about 2 1/2 hours. You return for at least three sessions. Then once you pass the final exam, met all the requirements in the pool, that’s considered completion of part one of the open water program.
Part one is $489 that includes all the instruction material inside of the crew pack, your book, flat tables, logbook, and student record forms. We provide all the tanks, regulators, buoyancy compensators, weight, weight belts, and wetsuits. The only personal gear you need is your mask, snorkel boots, and fins. If they are purchased here in our retail store, the students to get a discount.
Then if you're planning a trip down to the Caribbean (or anywhere else!) we give you a referral form and that tells the resort or dive shop at your destination that you have done all the pool and academics here in Brookfield, CT. You can do your four dives for final certification.
If you prefer, you can join us from May to the end of October when we travel to Dutch Springs, PA to complete Part II. Cost is $369 which includes your four certification dives with our instructors and includes everything you need for that weekend.
